{"id":980,"date":"2013-03-21T09:52:38","date_gmt":"2013-03-21T09:52:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.geoplanit.co.uk\/?p=980"},"modified":"2013-03-21T09:52:38","modified_gmt":"2013-03-21T09:52:38","slug":"mobile-cityengine-web-viewer-webgl-on-android","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.geoplanit.co.uk\/?p=980","title":{"rendered":"Mobile CityEngine Web Viewer (WebGL on Android)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is interesting, I was looking at viewing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/group.html?owner=CityEngine&amp;title=CityEngine%20Web%20Scenes\" target=\"_blank\">CityEngine web scenes<\/a> on my iPad and <a href=\"http:\/\/demoseen.com\/webglenabler\/\" target=\"_blank\">apparently it is capable<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/apple-accepts-webgl-graphics-for-iad-ready-for-3d-ads-17160079\/\" target=\"_blank\">webGL is supported in adverts<\/a>) but only if you jailbreak it. \u00a0 \u00a0I&#8217;m not really prepared to go down that route, I might break it and then my 3.5 year old daughter would be mad at me.<\/p>\n<p>So I looked at weather my new Samsung Galaxy S3 could view webGL content. \u00a0 Well no it can&#8217;t by default\u00a0except when you download the beta version of <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.chrome.beta&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome Beta for Android<\/a>! \u00a0 What you do is install <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geek.com\/articles\/news\/chrome-for-android-gets-webgl-support-and-chromeflags-experiments-20130125\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome Beta and type into the address bar <strong>Chrome:\/\/flags\u00a0<\/strong>and then enable webGL<\/a>, of course then you point your Chrome Beta browser at your favourite CityEngine webscene. \u00a0 So far it seems ok, there are times when the 3D is a bit sluggish, the big issue is that you can&#8217;t navigate the model by touch, so you have to really on the bookmarks. \u00a0Also the slider for moving between two scenes doesn&#8217;t work. \u00a0 My guess is this can be programmed in, as soon as one of ESRI&#8217;s nice CityEngine developers (who read this blog?) feel like a quick side project for me&#8230;.. ?
